Hobby Town

We dropped by a neat little hobby shop in Orem this week. I feel like most hobby places could really be renamed "model airplanes, cars and trains". Daniel enjoyed playing on the simulated model airplane flight control game and I found some interesting finds with animal anatomy. Also, I now know where to go if I ever want to make a model forest or model city and need real life looking trees.

Sharing Cart

I was bemoaning the lack of a Farmer's Market in Orem when my father-in-law mentioned that instead we have a Sharing Box. Intrigued, I sought it out the next day and found this in the parking lot of the Orem Senior Citizen Center Parking Lot. Who would have thought?

Natural History Museum

I've been wanting to go to the Utah Natural History Museum, and on Monday they had a free day, so I grabbed tickets and took Daniel up to see it. I was impressed with the 5 story museum, it seemed so open and spacious. We enjoyed walking on the roof and seeing the massive display of solar panels. It was also nice to play around with the exhibits and we had a personalized tour of the display of humanoid heads.

SLC Mini Maker Faire

We went to the SLC Mini Maker Faire on Saturday and it was a blast. Not only did we get to make lots of neat gadgets and play with robots and crossbows and pick locks, but we got to talk to the various people at the booths and hear how passionate they were. It definitely makes me want to play with arduinos more and maybe purchase a makey makey.

Putting out the fire

The Orem city Fire Department hosted an open house type event where they held demonstrations with fires, car demolition, fire hose testing, dog petting and best of all-- cotton candy. It was a lot of fun for Daniel, Jade, Jonathan and I. Mostly Jonathan walked around and picked up pieces of pop corn from the ground while I tried to pry them out of his hands and Jade kept asking for more cotton candy.
